I have begun the daunting process of hiring a sales force, graphic designer and photo journalist and yes all at once. There are so many stories out there that are just waiting to be told and read by talented writers that are looking for a creative avenue and aviation enthusiasts that are wanting more. We are that avenue if it is an article about women in aviation and the leadership roles they have and have had in this industry. Women will change the face of this industry just as they have changed the face of so many other male dominated industries and organizations; the difference will be the spirit in which they accomplish this change. The greatness of aviation is the freedom and when you are flying you are neither man or woman you are just a pilot navigating an aircraft, no gender, no race.
The struggle is there for women but not for equality or right but for the acceptance of ability. Ask any female pilot if she cares what anyone thinks and you will get a resounding "NO" but it is what aviation can do and has to offer young girls that will get them talking. The struggles of our early female pioneers of flight did not end with the WASP it only began after they were disbanded. The Mercury 13 is a great example of this needless waste of verifiable talent. Women in avaition have a long and proud history and it grows and will continue to grow everyday. One of the women I interviewed today for a sales postion actually said, in my office, "You mean there are women pilots out there? I had no idea." I was at once disappointed and encouraged. This is the mission and the reason we are so excited about getting those stories out there to educate, encourage and inspire the next generation that won't have to ask "Can I really do this?".
